A mailing-list would be desired to follow the discussion.

Sure! Thanks... If you are located in Liege, maybe we can meet in real life
to talk about the project. There is a lot to talk about.

By now I'm just interested in Belgium, but if we make this project a
reality, I'm sure other nations will follow.
And I think the Belgium Linux community is large, enthusiastic and
responsive enough to start this project.

No, we have to start small. I think this project has to be started inside
each country's Linux community. Besides, if we plan a wold-wide ISP, don't
you think it will scare potential funders? I mean, it is a hell lot of
money!

Yes, we are in a small country, so it's perfect to start this experiment. By
now there are so many successful linux companies, that it's most likely to
find funds. We are in the perfect time. And, let's don't forget, the Belgian
government could be interested too.
Last friday I went to Belgacom to ask for information concerning a 0800
number. It's not too difficult to set one up. And I have some prices, which
don't seem to be too scandalous.
One argument that could arise is: ISPs will think it is unfair competition.
It is not. We are a minority, that's why they don't support us (has anyone
managed to connect to infonie with Linux? Please, let me know).
And, we are just another choice. I mean, those who already have cable
internet access, won't switch to our ISP. I'm not claiming the 0800-LINUX
ISP to be the only choice for linux. Not at all. It's purpose is to help the
ones who are dial-up clients and/or would like to benefit from our extra
features (serial line balance, encryption, central mirror, etc). And with
such a project we could attract much more people to Linux, thus enlarging
our user base.
Thanks for your reply.
Best regards,
Carlos Betancourt
