[linux-team] Static and Dynamic IP
Voici une version beta du mail que je vais envoyer à Pascal Lundi... tu en
penses quoi ???
y'a des fautes ??? il manque des trucs ??? (je dois encore ajouter mes
fichiers de config).
<<netst.txt>>
Hello !
Well I have a problem : I can't configure my internet cable connection with
SuSE 6.1. Actually I've 2 PCI networks cards
* eth0 is used for the cable-modem, supposed to use a dynamic IP
* eth1 is used for a small LAN, static IP (192.168.0.20)
before I start, I want to say that everything works well with win 9x, so
there is no problem with the cables, network cards, etc...
the cards are detected by SuSE at the startup, with the right adresses and
IRQs. Since none of the cards are in the list, I used "Ne2000 compatible
PCI card". They are both identified as Realtek (but one of them is a
D-Link)... but I don't think there's a problem with this (I tried them
separately and they both work on my LAN)...
First, I tried to setup them with YAST.
First, I setuped the eth1 (LAN) with a static IP... no problem, it works
well, I can ping the other computers on the network...
Yast always complain with eth0 because I don't assign a static IP to this
card and it wants one to activate the card... I just ignored that...
Then I tried to setup the cable-modem network card... (still with YAST)...
but when I select DHCP Client, I can't access anymore to the network
configuration menu... doesn't matter, the other card is already setuped
correctly...
when I do this, none of the cards works anymore...
Of course the DHCPcd is installed on the computer... I tried with the DHCPd,
doesn't work too...
there is nothing about this in the SuSE manual (only 3 lines)... I have read
a few HOWTOs but I can't find anything to solve this problem...
I haven't found when I can tell Linux that I want to use the DHCP with the
eth0 only (many people say that Linux detects that automatically)
I don't know is it's useful to say that, but the cable modem is a TeraPro
(terayon) and the DHCP server runs under Windows NT (I think)
PS: As the Internet connexion doesn't work under Linux, I can't do a
tcpdump... so I've attached a text file with the results of a netstat
(windows)... I hope this can help...
