Date: Dec 28, 1989 X3T9.2/90-004 To: X3T9.2 Committee (SCSI) From: George Penokie (IBM) Subject: 32 Bit Data Path on a Single 110 pin Connector This is the appendix form of the 32 Bit Data Path on a single 110 pin connector. In an attempt to follow the recommended principles for appendixes (in other words the KISS principle) I have limited the appendix to only include the following: -A short description of the physical interconnect methods. -References to the B cable for all cable, connector, and term power specifications. -Pin outs for the P and L cables single ended and differential connectors. -No reference to additional SCSI ID addresses. If this is appendix is adopted I would recommend a separated CCS type document be published which incorporates proposal X3T9.2/89- 094Rx. Appendix K - Alternate Connectors for 16/32 Bit Data Path K.1. Physical Description 16 bit cabling alternatives: SCSI devices are daisy-chained together using a common 68-conductor P cable. Both ends of all cables are terminated. All signals are common between all SCSI devices on the P cable. Various width SCSI devices may be mixed. Physical devices with P cable connectors shall connect the low data byte (DB0-DB7,P) to the P connector. The high data byte (DB8-DB15,P1) may be connected to the P connector. 16/32 bit cabling alternatives: SCSI devices are daisy-chained together using a common 110-conductor L cable. Both ends of all cables are terminated. All signals are common between all SCSI devices on the L cable. Various width SCSI devices may be mixed. Physical devices with L cable connectors shall connect the low data byte (DB0-DB7,P) to the P connector. The three high data bytes (DB8-DB15,P1,DB16-DB24,P2,DB25-DB32) may be connected to the L connector. The A/B cable and L cable alternatives are mutually exclusive within a system. Physical devices with A cable or P cable connectors may be attached to L cables. Physical devices with B cable connectors shall not be attached to L or P cables. Physical devices with L or P cable connectors shall not be attached to A or A/B cables. K.2. Cabling The P and L cables shall follow the same specifications for cables and connectors as described for the B cable in Section 4 of this standard. K.3. Terminator Power The P and L cables shall follow the same specifications for terminator power as described for the B cable in Section 4 of this standard. K.4.
